Nightclub singer Deloris van Cartier accidentally witnesses a murder after her performance - and suddenly finds herself in witness protection. Instead of glamorous stage lights, she's placed in a conservative convent, where she has to go into hiding as a humble nun - much to the dismay of the strict Mother Superior…
In the church choir, the singer is meant to become part of the community, but the nuns can't hit a single note, so Deloris takes over the direction. With her in charge, every service becomes an event, and the masses attract an ever-growing crowd - when they finally perform in front of the Pope, the gangsters pick up Deloris's trail, and the nuns unexpectedly find themselves in grave danger…
